  • A shiver of sharks. A shiver of sharks. I can't stop shivering, that shiver of sharks.

    November 16, 2007

  • Excellent. Captures the motion of sharks perfectly.

    November 17, 2007

  • I like the phrase, but I disagree slightly, yarb. I think the movement of sharks is best evident in the phrase "slither of sharks." However, that word doesn't get at the frisson of terror that sharks produce in humans.

    November 17, 2007

  • Good point about the frisson. In fact "a frisson of sharks" isn't bad either.

    November 17, 2007

  • *shudder*

    November 17, 2007

  • *earworm alert*

"When the shark bites, with his teeth, dear

    Scarlet billows start to rise..."

    1. How did that song ever get on the radio?

    2. Who thought of using the word "dear" in that verse?

"...and it leaves them, pearly white..."

    November 17, 2007

  • That song cracks me up. Every time. Even without people doing that little shark-y thing with their hands.

    November 17, 2007

  • skipvia, as to who thought of using "dear" in that verse... I want to say Kurt Weill. (Am I nuts?)

    November 18, 2007

  • I just thought it was an unusual word to include in a verse about blood billowing up after a shark attack. And I doubt that Kurt included it in the original German--probably a Bobby Darin scat improvisation.
